Our engineering department

Located in our manufacturing plant in Botevgrad, Bulgaria, our engineering department is responsible for the industrialization, productization, and sustainment of APS thermal printing technologies developed by R&D. Engineering converts validated concepts into robust, manufacturable, and cost-optimized thermal printing mechanisms and printer platforms.

1. Mechanism engineering


Engineering owns the detailed design, integration, and release of thermal printing components, including:

  • Thermal printhead integration, covering mechanical mounting, thermal interfaces, and electrical interconnects.
  • Printing mechanism design, including platen rollers, head-loading mechanisms, frames, springs, and compliance systems.
  • Tolerance stack-up and pressure distribution control to ensure consistent dot formation across media widths.
  • Design verification and qualification against functional and environmental requirements.

2. Manufacturing & process engineering


Engineering defines and maintains production-ready processes, including:

  • Assembly process development for printheads, mechanisms, and subassemblies.
  • Tooling, jigs, and fixtures to ensure alignment, repeatability, and throughput.
  • Process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) and yield optimization.
  • Manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEAs).

3. Electrical & firmware engineering


Engineering delivers production-grade electronics and firmware, including:

  • Printhead drive boards and power distribution design.
  • Firmware implementation of strobe timing, energy control, and thermal compensation algorithms.
  • Hardware–software integration testing and regression control.

4. Supplier & cost engineering


The department manages supplier-facing technical execution, including:

  • Component specification and qualification (printheads, rollers, motors, sensors…).
  • Cost-down initiatives through design optimization and alternative sourcing.
  • Supplier process audits and technical change management.
  • Second-source and lifecycle risk mitigation.

5. Product validation & quality engineering


Engineering ensures released products meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements, through:

  • Design Verification Testing (DVT) and Product Verification Testing (PVT).
  • Print quality, lifetime, and environmental qualification.
  • Failure analysis and corrective action (8D, CAPA).
  • Change control and configuration management.

6. Sustaining & field support engineering


Engineering provides ongoing technical support for products in the field, including:

  • Root-cause analysis of customer returns and field failures.
  • Design updates and ECO implementation.
  • Performance optimization across product revisions.
  • Manufacturing and service feedback loop closure.
