Turning Ideas into Reliable Products: a Conversation with our Engineering Manager
At APS – Advanced Printing Systems, the Engineering Department plays a central role in transforming ideas into reliable, high-performance thermal printers. From product design and development to continuous improvement, the team works closely with multiple departments, to ensure every solution meets customer expectations while remaining efficient to manufacture.
We spoke with Radka Vasileva, Engineering Manager, about the department’s responsibilities, the challenges of developing customized solutions, and the teamwork that drives innovation at APS.
What makes me most proud is seeing how different teams come together to transform an idea into a finished product that customers rely on every day.
Radka Vasileva
A Department driving Innovation
As Engineering Manager, Radka leads the team responsible for designing, developing, and continuously improving APS thermal printer products. Their mission is to create reliable and innovative solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring products can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively.
“Our role is to develop reliable, innovative thermal printers, that meet customer requirements while ensuring they can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively.”
Beyond product development, the Engineering Department serves as a bridge between customer expectations, product design, and production capabilities, helping APS remain competitive while delivering high-quality solutions to customers around the world.
Solving Challenges through Collaboration
Engineering projects often involve balancing customer expectations with technical feasibility, manufacturing constraints, and tight delivery schedules.
One recent project perfectly illustrates this challenge. A customer requested a customized thermal printer featuring specific connectivity requirements while also expecting a very short delivery timeline.
“The customer needed a customized solution within a very tight timeframe.”
To meet these expectations, the engineering team redesigned part of the printer’s electronics architecture while working closely with production, purchasing, and quality teams. At the same time, accelerated validation testing ensured the new design maintained the product’s reliability.
From Concept to Successful Delivery
Developing customized products requires close coordination between departments and the ability to adapt quickly when new technical requirements arise.
Thanks to strong collaboration across APS, the project was completed on schedule and successfully passed all validation tests before being delivered to the customer on time.
“We redesigned the electronics, coordinated with multiple departments, and accelerated our testing process.”
The successful project not only met all technical and performance requirements but also strengthened the customer’s confidence in APS, leading to additional orders.
“The product was delivered on time, met all performance requirements, and strengthened our relationship with the customer.”
Engineering powered by Teamwork
For Radka, successful engineering is never the result of one department working alone.
Daily collaboration with production, purchasing, quality, and other teams ensures that every product can move smoothly from design to manufacturing while maintaining APS’s quality standards.
The team’s technical expertise and practical approach to problem-solving are among the qualities she values most.
“Everyone is focused on finding practical solutions while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.”
What motivates Radka most is seeing an idea become a finished product that customers can rely on every day.
She believes APS’s greatest strength lies in the collaboration between departments, where engineering, production, quality, and customer support all contribute to delivering reliable thermal printing solutions.
“Knowing that our products are used around the world, and that our work has a direct impact on our customers’ success is very rewarding.”
In Practice: Engineering Customized Solutions
Every customer has unique requirements, and the Engineering Department plays a key role in adapting APS products to meet those needs.
Whether integrating new connectivity features, redesigning electronics, or validating product performance through rigorous testing, the team works closely with purchasing, production, and quality departments to ensure each solution combines innovation, reliability, and manufacturability.
This collaborative approach allows APS to respond quickly to customer requests while maintaining the high standards expected from its thermal printing solutions.
Building the Future of APS
Behind every APS thermal printer is a team of engineers dedicated to turning customer needs into reliable, high-quality products. By combining technical expertise, innovation, and close collaboration across departments, the Engineering team helps drive the company’s continued growth and supports customers around the world with solutions they can depend on.
